I seem to have been posting a lot of pictures and tweets lately and not much content. I haven’t been sitting in front of the computer a lot as when I’m not guiding I have been moonlighting for Uber, which just launched in Wellington. It’s a lot of fun, and I can still get work done on my phone between trips. The hours are completely flexible and it’s keeping me busy during the quiet season so it feels like a good idea. When a tour comes in, I can just walk away from Uber – perfect. That said, I’d rather be on the road showing off this amazing country and getting to know some interesting people for more than 10 minutes at a time.
I’ve tried a few new things recently, when the guides from Wellington Rover Tours (who I also work for sometimes) took a North Island road trip. We experienced the beautiful scenery of the Trollshaws from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with Suzie of Hairy Feet Waitomo. We also checked out a cave system that I’ve never seen before with Mangu from Spellbound Glowworm and Cave tours, a much smaller and more personal operation than the famous Waitomo Glowworm Cave operation. We tried the Hobbit Dinner at the Green Dragon Pub as part of an evening tour with Hobbiton Movie Set Tours, and a steamy bubbling walk through the geothermal area at Orakei Korako. I hope to write a post about each of these adventures in the next little while, so keep an eye out for them.
I was hoping to organise a private tour of New Zealand based on the Highlands 101 motor race in Cromwell in early November, but I may already be busy in the lead up to that event. If there are any motorsport enthusiasts out there who want to see New Zealand after the Highlands 101, I may be available right after the race weekend to help explore the many motoring and aviation museums around the country. I’m still working on a sample itinerary along these lines to give an idea of what’s possible.
If you want to discuss your private tour of New Zealand, please contact me and we can have a chat about what you need. If we are the right fit, I’d love to show you around.
