It’s pretty well known that I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. That is not the only thing I’m passionate about though. I’m very lucky to live in a country that indulges my hobbies on a daily basis. The icing on the cake is the amazing events held in New Zealand throughout the year. Here are a few events coming up in New Zealand that I’m very excited about.
If you are planning a trip to New Zealand and share some of the same interests as me, I’d love to be your very own tour guide as we check out these awesome events as part of your overall New Zealand vacation.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Nationwide

Watch this space and I’ll update as more information becomes available. I’ll be unavailable from December 13th to January 5th, so if you come during this period I won’t be around to guide you. I’m still happy to help with planning though!

Leadfoot Festival – Whitianga, Waikato
This is a unique hillclimb event, originally held as a race up Rod Millen’s “driveway” to celebrate his 60th birthday. With a huge range of classic vehicles competing, Leadfoot Festival would be a great anchor event for your trip to New Zealand.
Actually, this event deserves two videos!

If you want to do a foodie tour of New Zealand, and are braver than your average punter – perhaps you should time your trip around the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival. There is a huge range of food to try, including bugs, grubs and larvae, through to fine cheeses and interesting cuts of meat. Mountain Oysters anyone?

Classic Fighters Omaka 2015 – Blenheim
One of the world’s great Warbirds shows. Check out their website for the best information, or watch the video below for a taste of the 2011 show. This show features what is possibly the largest gathering of flying WWI aircraft, and you can usually count on my favourite being there – The Spitfire.
